Our Vision and History

Our History
The Greater Manchester Dance Collective was created in response to a shared experience felt by many dance educators: working in isolation, often as the sole specialist in a school, with limited access to subject-specific CPD and professional dialogue.
GMDC began as a small, informal network of local teachers coming together to share ideas, discuss assessment, and support one another through the practical realities of delivering GCSE Dance. What started as conversation quickly grew into collaborative CPD, peer-led moderation opportunities, and student-focused enrichment events that responded directly to the needs of the region’s dance education community.
To date, GMDC has brought together educators from across Greater Manchester and beyond, facilitating meaningful professional discussion, supporting confidence in assessment practice, and creating opportunities for students that extend beyond individual school settings. Our work is rooted in collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to high-quality dance education.
Our Future Vision
The Greater Manchester Dance Collective aims to strengthen dance education by continuing to grow high-quality support for teachers while expanding opportunities for students across the region.
Building on our foundations in collaborative CPD and professional dialogue, GMDC is now broadening its focus to include student experience, enrichment, and progression. Our vision is to create meaningful, accessible opportunities that support young people alongside the educators who guide them.
Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, GMDC is committed to delivering bigger and more ambitious events that bring educators and students together, foster connection, and celebrate the value of dance education across Greater Manchester and the wider North.
